Kenrick Monk changes statement with regards to elbow injury - Olympics
Kenrick Monk, an Australian swimmer, has recently given a new version of the story about how he broke both his elbows. Such a confession may jeopardize Monk’s chances of entering the London 2012 Olympics.
Monk’s initial take on the reason for breaking his elbow bones was a hit and run accident by a car as he was riding a bike. This incident took place on Wednesday in Brisbane according to the 23-year-old swimmer.
However, a recent statement by Monk says that the swimmer incurred the injury while falling off a skateboard.
"I was embarrassed. I didn't know what to do, I panicked, I freaked... Basically to know that i've just fallen off a skateboard, something that a 10-year-old can ride. I was embarrassed something stupid," said an upset Monk.
Michael Bohl, the coach of the young swimmer, confirmed Monk’s guilt and said that he initially lied about the accident in order to cover his embarrassment. Monk has made no connection of his confession with the fact that a witness of his skate board accident had emerged.
Monk’s first statement about the accident was given in the following words: "I remember the guys in the car yelling 'oi' and laughing. I turned and I got whacked on the side -- that was it."
Monk is not sure what actions would be taken against him for is falsehood as the police has not yet reached a conclusion about whether to take the matter further or not. On the other hand, Swimming Australia has not said much about the matter and are waiting to find out more details about the issue before giving any decision with regard to the issue at hand. All the chief executive of Swimming Australia has said at the moment is that the situation is regrettable.
Monk has bagged himself some admirable wins in his career as a swimmer. He was able to win the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Other than that, Monk has also made an appearance in the Beijing Olympics and was a participant in the world championships that were held in Shanghai.
