Kent 2nd XI v Somerset 2nd XI: Second Eleven Trophy – Kent 2nd XI’s First Innings
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
The visitors would have expected a much better total after their captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-Gregory-c72822 had chosen to bat first on a good batting pitch. However, the team could have been in a much worse situation, as they recovered from 132/8 to reach 250.
Although the Kent 2nd XI team lost momentum towards the end of the opposition’s innings, the team would have hoped for a solid first innings total in order to take a comprehensive lead.
This was not the case though, as the hosts were all-out for 199 runs in their first outing. None of their batsmen managed to take his score past fifty and the highest score of the innings came from middle-order player Chris Piesley, who ended up with 38
runs.
The pitch had remained good for the batsmen, but the ball was doing some tricks as well, which made life difficult for the batting side.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Thornely-c1967 got out without scoring. He played and missed on quite a few occasions and finally got dismissed on the 20th delivery faced.
The hosts’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexander-James-Blake-c43208 was also unable to make an impression, as he was sent back to the pavilion after adding just six runs to the total.
Fabian Cowdrey looked good for his 31 runs, as he was timing the ball nicely. He failed to make most of the start he got to his innings though and was the third man to be dismissed in the innings.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-W-Billings-c88204 did not last long either, getting out for just seven runs in his short stay at the crease.
The innings was then stabilised by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Williams-c51030 and Piesley, who put together 49 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. The former gave his wicket away after contributing 29 runs to the total.
Matt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Coles-c51379 tried to exert some pressure on the opposition, playing aggressive cricket. He clobbered 34 runs off 25 balls with the help of seven fours and one six, but failed to capitalise on the start.
Piesley was the next man to go after contributing 38 runs to the total with the help of five boundaries. There was no significant impression from the lower-order players, as the Kent 2nd XI was bundled-up for 199 runs.
Craig Meschede picked up five wickets in the innings, helping his side gain a first innings lead of 51 runs.
