Kent sign Charl Langeveldt for 2011 Friends Life T20 tournament
Kent County Cricket Club have signed South Africa medium-pace bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charl-Kenneth-Langeveldt-c49673, for their 2011 Friends Life T20 tournament, which will Kick-start at Southampton on June 1.
Kent's director of cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Farbrace-c81060 told media reporters about Langeveldt’s deal with the club and hoped the 36-year-old Proteas seamer’s experience will come in handy for the spitfires this season.
"I am delighted that Charl will be playing for Kent," said Farbrace while talking to the media reporters on Wednesday. "His considerable experience in Twenty20 will give us a boost, and we look forward to welcoming him into the team",
he added.
Farbrace, while talking to a leading sports channel, said that they have a good batting line up for the Twenty20 format of game and reckoned the only department where they were lacking is bowling.
"Batting-wise I think we're a very good Twenty20 side”, said the Kent coach. “We just felt we needed some help and experienced support with our bowling. Charl provides exactly that", he added.
Langeveldt has just finished a 45-day long IPL campaign where he was playing for the tournament runners up, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Farbrace hailed the seamer for his successful stint with RCB.
"His stats are very good, he was keen to come and play. He's been in the IPL - he's made his reputation for being a brilliant bowler at the end of the innings".
Farbrace conceded that they had number of options for the second overseas player but he felt the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 seamer would bring the county the experience they need.
When asked whether the Proteas pacer, who recently finished his IPL game, will be available for Kent’s Twenty20 opener, the Kent coach said that they are all keen to have Charl on board.
The tournament is set to start on Wednesday 1 June, 2011, with the opener featuring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 at Tunbridge Wells on Friday, June 3 and Langeveldt is expected
