Kent County Cricket Club has signed former West Indies batsman and the technical director of Jamaica, Jimmy Adams, as their new head coach.
The county has been without a head coach since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Farbrace-c81060 stepped down from the coveted position in September last year.
Speaking to media reporters after his appointment as Kent's coach, Adams praised the county for its proud history and expressed delight over being given an opportunity to mentor the Spitfires.
"I am delighted to be given this opportunity," said Adams after agreeing for the coaching position. "Kent are a county with a proud history and tradition. I look forward to working towards further success in the year to come and
can't wait to get started," he added further.
Adams, the 43-year-old left-arm batsman from Jamaica, played international cricket for 10 years representing West Indies in 54 Tests and 127 One Day Internationals. In five-day cricket he averaged 41.26 as he compiled 3012 runs
from 90 innings, including six centuries and 14 half centuries. He was relatively less successful in the One Day format of the game where he could average only 28.62 in 127 appearances.
He was also an occasional left-arm orthodox bowler who claimed 27 Test and 43 ODI wickets. The Jamaican had also captained http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 cricket team in 14 Tests.
After his retirement from international cricket in 2001, he was appointed as West Indies' Under 19 team's manager before he was given the role of technical director by the Jamaica Cricket Association.
The chairman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 with a tremendous amount of experience under his belt and hoped the Spitfires would further flourish during his tenure as head coach.

The county has also made some changes to its 2011 squad having signed Michael Powell from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martin-van-Jaarsveld-c74944 next
season with the former departing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 Panthers while the latter retiring from the county cricket.
Kent will kick start 2012 season with a County Championship clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 at Leeds on April 5.
