Kent starts ground redevelopment
Kent county cricket club has started a £9 million redevelopment of its' St-Lawrence Canterbury cricket ground.
The new additions to the ground will include improved commercial and media facilities. There will also be a big improvement to the main pavilion as well as the addition of seats to all main stands.
"I’m tremendously excited. It’s been a long haul getting to this point. But to know now that the project’s finally going to happen, there’s an opportunity to drastically invest in the club’s future to
make sure the infrastructure we’ve got it is as good as it can be," said Kent captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Key-c2349.
The ground work is a huge piece of news for the county. It will enable a number of positive things ahead of an important 2011 season. However, the county has admitted there will be no reduction in ticket
prices.
Positive news
The news is positive for a number of reasons. Additional seats will mean that more fans can get into the ground and watch first-class cricket. This will mean increased revenue through ticket sales.
The improvements being made to media facilities means that Kent has a better chance of having games shown live next season. This will further increase revenue and will increase exposure of the cricket
club.
Kent should be guaranteed a high number of members for next season. This is because the existing pavilion is being adapted and improved. This part of the ground is exclusive to members who will be chomping
at the bit to use new facilities.
"There’s a tremendous amount of hope about where we’re trying to get to and that’s what a 21st century sports fan expects, a standard of facility very different to what we’ve got now. The landscape of
cricket’s changing massively and we have to make sure we’re right at the front of it,"
added Key.
