Kent managed to draw a County Championship Division Two match against Leicestershire at the Grace Road, Leicester in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, August 5, 2011.
The hosts had set a target of 328 for the opposition on the final day’s play of the four-day game. However, it was almost impossible to chase it down, as Kent had very less overs in the day to play with.
Earlier, the Leicestershire skipper Claude Henderson had opted to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was good for the batsmen, but it also had some bounce for the bowlers, which made the game challenging.
The hosts batted decently in their first outing, but were all out for 257 runs. The highest score of the innings came from the team’s captain, who scored 54 runs.
Leicestershire’s openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Boyce-c1924 and Will Jefferson gave a decent start to the side, collecting 65 runs for the first wicket partnership. The former was unable to capitalise on the start he got to his innings, getting out for 18 runs off 38 deliveries.
Just a couple of balls later, Jefferson was also sent back to the pavilion after adding 32 runs to the total. He was batting aggressively and looked threatening, but failed to make most of the conditions.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshua-Cobb-c1739 was the next man to be dismissed in the innings. He managed just 1 run in his short stay at the wicket, leaving the hosts in a spot of bother at 74/3. The team had lost three wickets in a span of just nine runs at that stage of the innings.
However, Wayne White and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Greg-Smith-c1508 collected 43 runs for the fourth wicket partnership, guiding the team’s total above 100. The latter was unable to make a big impression though, as he was dismissed after scoring 17 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shiv-Thakor-c90060 was the next man to be dismissed in the innings. He struggled in his outing, ending up with just 10 runs off 33 balls. He was followed by White, who played extremely well for his 50 runs with the help of six boundaries.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-New-c2702 faced 19 deliveries, but failed to open his account and was finally sent back to the pavilion, leaving the team under immense pressure at 166/7.
Lower-order player http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jigar-Naik-c1694 offered some resistance, collecting 18 runs off 73 balls. However, he was unable to make a solid impression and was the eighth wicket to fall in the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naik-c78500. He played a valiant knock of 54 runs, guiding the team to 257 in the end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 did a decent job for the Kent team, as he dismissed four batsmen. He was a touch expensive though and gave away a few careless extras as well in his spell.
