Led by skipper Robert Key’s timely century, Kent succeeded in claiming a 30-run win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 on August 22.
Yorkshire won the toss and elected to field first, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-W-Billings-c88204 (15) and Player of the Match Key (101) opening for their side. Their partnership lasted till the 9th over and yielded 41 runs, coming to an end with the dismissal of Billings
at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rich-Pyrah-c2311 (8-0-55-2). However, Sam Northeast (26) did not allow the team’s momentum to flag, going on to set up a 70-run stand with Key, which got their side up to 111 by the 23rd over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stevens-c91368 was just as effective, racking up an individual total of 43, in addition to establishing a 3rd-wicket 71-run stand with Key.
By this point, Kent were at 182, and the 35th over saw them losing two wickets – Key, followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 (13*) chipped in with some last
over contributions, and got the team up to a final total of 226 by the end of 40 overs, at the expense of 5 wickets.
Yorkshire’s innings got off to a solid start, courtesy a half-ton by opening batsman and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676 (8-1-31-3) on the prowl, the team was unable to surpass 196 before they were all bowled.
Top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Lyth-c922 (24) and Rashid (0) back to the pavilion.
The rest of the middle order – comprising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Sidebottom-c2333 (0) in the 39th over, Yorkshire found themselves all out at
196 – 30 runs short of the target. The victory brought Kent to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Group C, and closer to the tournament semi-finals.
