Kenta Kazuno – Ayaka Takahashi win their first qualifying round match of the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011
Japan’s Kenta Kazuno – Ayaka Takahashi defeated Joris Grosjean – Audrey Fontaine of France in their first qualifying round match of the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011, at Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday, March 15. The Japanese shuttlers consumed only 19 minutes to thrash the French pair in straight games without facing any trouble.
In the opening set of the qualifying round match, Kazuno – Ayaka delivered a wonderful performance and proved that they are ready to do well in the main round as well. In the first half of the opening set, the Japanese pair remained in complete control of the game and took a quick lead of 8-3. The French pair tried hard to handle the pace of the shuttlecock but failed as the opponents were far better. Till the interval Kazuno – Ayaka were ahead of Grosjean – Audrey by a clear margin of 11-5.
After the interval, the Japanese duo continued their winning run and stretched the lead by reaching 17-9. The French pair matched the speed and reduced the gap by scoring four points in a row. However, Kazuno – Ayaka again occupied the driving seat and scored the remaining points to win the opening set by a convincing margin of 21-13, in just 9 minutes.
The second game, if anything, enforced the already established supremacy of the Japanese pair as they were playing at their best in the opening half of the second set. They were in good shape and executed the strokes very effectively. The hard smashes and strong pushes on the net were the strong points of the Japanese that earned them a good lead of 11-4 till the one-minute-break.
After the 60-second-interval, Grosjean – Audrey worked hard to stop the winning run of the opponents but the Japanese shuttlers remained far ahead from their reach. Kazuno – Ayaka were playing fast and their control over the rallies was incredible as they found no resistance from the opposition in the entire set.
The Japanese pair won the second game with a stunning margin of 21-10, by spending just 10 minutes in the court. The final score of this 19-minute-qualifying match was, 21-9 and 21-10.
