Question:

Kentish Town and Surrounding Areas?

Hi :)

I've been researching property in Kentish town as it seems that I'll be moving to London in the near future. Here are my questions, hopefully the format will make this easier (and quicker!) to read:

- Is Kentish Town good for public transport?

- (In general) is it expensive?

- Is it a safe place? ie Would it be very dangerous to walk home there late at night or just the usual dangers expected in a city?

- Would paying between £120 - £200 pw for a single room there be a fare price?

- In good reach (by public transport) to places like Brixton Academy or Islington Academy?

And finally, if I happen to get the job I've applied for it will be located in Leicester Square and will involve very early mornings. Would public transport from Kentish Town to Leicester Square be sufficient? What's the distance?

Thanks a lot, even if you can only answer one of the questions I'd REALLY appreciate it!

ps Would Kentish Town be safer than Shepard's Bush?

  1. You don't say where you are moving from. If it is a city, then you won't be uncomfortable or feel unsafe in Kentish Town. You might if you are used to a village or small town.

I can't say about rents but everywhere in London is expensive.

The public transport on buses and the underground from there to Central London is excellent. The Northern Line runs through to South London and there are Night Buses.

You would need to change tube lines to get to Islington or Brixton, but they are not at all out of the way.

Don't know how safety compares with Shepherds Bush. Probably about the same. Shepherds Bush rents are probably going to rise soon once the new Shopping Centre and rail-link is completed.

  2. Hey..kentish town is pretty safe...might make you a LITTLE bit uneasy at night (but i don't know which place in london wouldn't).  its safe and hey! the police station is right by the tube station (which by the way has a pretty long escalator). You'd be on the northern line - zone 2.

There's a lot of busses that run through the town, an underground station that will link you to central london, and an overground (K.T. West).

libraries, pubs clubs doctors and dental surgery there's like 3 / 4 hospitals all about 10/15 minutes away....close to cool cinemas and stuff...

kentish town to leicester square by underground would be about 10/15 minutes if the service is being good....you COULD walk (about 30 / 40 minutes), or a but will take 20 / 30 minutes direct to central london.

K.T also cool for grocery shopping.

I'd say its probably safer than shepards bush. but i'm a local and used to the eccentricities...it's about 15 minutes from camden too which actually isn't that bad...oh and they're refurbishing the swimming baths which should be pretty cool...

  3. You should avoid Camden Town which is close. Not safe at night
