Kento Momota earns a spot in Men’s Singles main draw of 2012 Li Ning China Open
Japan’s talented shuttler Kento Momota continued with his top form and stamped Poodchalat Pisit to gain access to the main round of Li Ning China Open on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
This Men’s Singles encounter took place in Shanghai and both contenders remained head-to-head for 31 minutes before piling up final figures of 21-18 and 21-10.
The victorious shuttler prevailed in both segments of the battle whereas the young Thai campaigner failed to rise on his toes throughout this tussle.
Kento Momota laid the foundation of his supremacy straight away in the beginning of first set and kept the opposing shuttler at the lower end until last shot was played.
In the opening game, the Japanese player unleashed a series of power packed smashes and confined his challenger in the rear court.
He capitalised this psychological advantage and pocketed many valuable points. He established a decent lead with 7-3 and then doubled the impact by registering a mountainous total of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, he lost the grip for short span of time and allowed his competitor to narrow the gap.
Poodchalat did not miss this opportunity and bounced back with a strong reply. He made a swift progress to a respectable score position of 13-13.
However, he could not go with the same flow in the third quarter of the set and slipped down after reading 18-21 margin on the board.
His bad patch continued in the second set as Kento Momota did not give him even a single chance to rise from the dust.
Initially, the Japanese shuttler looked a bit confused as Poodchalat prevailed in the establishing rallies but then couple of uninterrupted points boosted his confidence.
Kento Momota carried this rhythm until the announcement of one-minute break and placed a notable figure of 11.
He did not show mercy in later part of the game and strengthened his grip by registering 15-6 total. He bagged six out of ending ten points and locked the honour with a staggering knock of 21-10.
Now the real challenge awaits him in the main round of China Open as he will be up against the higher ranked shuttlers of the event.
