Kento Momota ousts Yuki Kaneko in Men’s Singles qualifying round at Japan Open Super Series
Japan’s passionate shuttler Kento Momota got a good start in Men’s Singles qualifying round when he overpowered hi team-mate Yuki Kaneko in a dominating fashion at the Yonex Japan Open Super Series 2012 at Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, September 18.
Momota, who has been struggling hard to find a breakthrough at international stage for the last couple of years, showed a strong performance in his first contest in the home event and remained successful in winning it with an impressive margin.
The in-form Momota played with control as he did not spare any chance for his opponent put up strong resistance and eventually earned victory in a spectacular fashion in straight games with a comfortable margin on score board in just 30 minutes.
Kaneko, on the other hand, played to his maximum potential but he lacked the finishing touch in his shots as he failed to capitalise his powerful smashes and lost the battle to his team-mate without winning any set.
In the first set, Momota started his journey in a remarkable manner as he dominated the pace of rallies and managed to push his compatriot on back foot by playing fast and positive badminton.
The powerful smashes coupled with variations in the shots helped Momota to take a considerable lead on score board until the end of first half.
After the 60-second break, Momota stretched his lead without facing any trouble from Yuki who failed to narrow the gap on score board.
Momota sailed smoothly in the concluding half of this qualifying round contest and took the game with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second set, Momota again occupied the driving seat by playing attacking badminton on score board and took a spectacular lead in the opening half.
Momota continued displaying tremendous badminton without losing his focus at any stage. He did finished up rallies whenever he found even a slight chance and took the set with a thrashing 21-12 score on the board.
The spirited Momota sent Yuki packing in this qualifying round clash in a dominating fashion with a dictating margin of 21-16 and 21-12.
