Question:

Kentucky Derby 2009?

So my family of three are planning on visiting the Kentucky Derby next year.

So I got on a great site for the tickets and it just says all this stuff like "box seats" "clubhouse box seats" "rail" "1st, 2nd, 3rd floor grandstands" and I just don't know what would be a good spot. We want a good spot where we can watch the race and see the horses clearly and be pretty close, actually by the finish line. We would not like the tickets to be over $2000 a piece.

Have any ideas? I saw one that said "116 - finish line clubhouse box seat" -rail-

Would that be good?

We would also want [outside] tickets.

Please help us! And me!

Here's the site, tell me a good ticket to get..

  1. You and your family are going to have a great time!!  Start shopping for your hat right now!

I have been to the Derby 7 times and each trip is unique in its own way.  Here are the two best trips in my opinion.

My favorite was a group tour that was set up with a lady named Jane Dempsey..Her family has been putting on Derby packages for many years.  It is an all inclusive trip, with many behind the scenes trips.  You get up close and personal with horses, trainers and jockeys.  Her website is at  www.kentuckyderbytours.com

My second favorite trip was with my daughter, we went on many of the farm tours, spent some time over in Lexington, at Keeneland Racetrack, (met Julie Krone) and then sat in section 316 for the Oaks and the Derby.  The view is great from here, you can follow the horses on the backstretch, and are right at the finish line.  I believe that some of the tickets at your site are near there and are in the price range you mentioned.  Good Luck and have a great time.

you might also want to check the website STUBHUB.com for tickets

  2. Sec 116 117 118 are all great seats for the price the backstretch may not be visible from these seats due to the fact that you are ground level but the start, stretch and finish will all be clearly visible.

  3. I would go to the site of the tracks web site !

I would not trust the others?

    Better get them now

you could go to the club house? Thats nice !

  4. The only thing I can tell you, as I have never been there - but I had absolutely NO IDEA the tickets were so expensive...wow!!! - is to remember that while what you are thinking of as far as tickets (I think) would allow you to see the finish line but being "close" as far as down on the ground may NOT necessarily be your best bet!

Because if you are down there, on the rail or close to it, you won't see much of the rest of the race.

Being up higher will allow you to see them start and run around the opposite end of the track and then see them as they cross the finish line from a higher vantage point.

I do know they have screens to show the angles that aren't visable to certain areas...but just wanted to point that out.

You are SO LUCKY that your parents(or what I assume to be the case based on what you stated) are going to take you...that's soooooo much money for tickets!  Add that to the money spent at the race for other things, plus your fabulous outfits (OH, I hope you are a girl - how FUN to pick out your hat!!!)...plus flights if you don't live close...sounds like easily a $10,000 day!!!

But what a fabulous experience...one I would love to have but know that is never going to happen!

    So live it for me, too...ok??  :-)  :-)  :-)
