Kentucky Derby odds and post positions
On 2 May, 2012, post positions were drawn for the Grade 1, $2 million Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2012, and the Bob Baffert trained runaway winner of the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park, Bodemeister, has been installed as the 4 to 1 morning line choice.
The son of Empire Maker is owned by Zayat Stables, who have Bob Baffert as the conditioner, and his barn has produced Derby winners three times, and Bodemeister, who will break from post number 6 under Mike Smith could be the fourth one.
The massive 3-year-old string Baffert had this year, he was bound to have more than one runner, and his second one to compete in the Derby is, Liaison, who got the far outside post number 20 with the odds of 50 to 1.
Union Rags, who is trained by Michael Matz for Chadds Ford Stable is going to run in the Kentucky Derby as the second choice with the odds of 9 to 2, and he drew post number 4 for his connections.
There was a lot of drama that went down at the draw, because post number 1 and 14 were the last one’s to be revealed, as the Irish based Aidan O’Brien trained, Daddy Long Legs got the rail, and the white ghost, Hansen, drew post number 14.
Hansen under jockey Ramon Dominguez will be sent as the 10 to 1 choice, while Daddy Long Legs along with Colm O’Donoghue is the 30 to 1 shot.
Doug O’Neill trained, I’ll Have Another, was keeping his fingers crossed, and wanted to evade the rail. He got his wish for his Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby winner, who drew post number 19 with the odds of 12 to 1.
Todd Pletcher, also has a pair of entrants in the shape of the undefeated Gemologist and El Padrino, both serious contenders, as Gemologist drew alongside Hansen in gate number 15 at 6 to 1, while El Padrino will break from post number 16 under Rafael Bejarano with the odds of 20 to 1.
Take Charge Indy is expected to do much, much more as he drew post number 3 at 15 to 1, and Dullahan who is equally expected to set the track ablaze will break from 5 at 8 to 1.
Optimizer, Rousing Sermon, Trinniberg, Done Talking will all be sent at 50 to 1, while Optimizer gets post number 2, Rousing Sermon bang in the middle will come out from post number 7, Trinniberg from post number 9, and Done Talking from post number 17.
Team Valor International’s Went The Day Well, is the real dark horse, coming off a win he has the odds of 20 to 1 to win the Derby, and he will break from post number 13.
Rajiv Maragh will take the mount on Alpha at 15 to 1, as the duo will break from gate 11.
