Kentucky Derby runner up Nehro ruled out of Preakness Stakes - Horse Racing news
The racehorse who finished the significant Kentucky Derby in the second place, Nehro, will not run in the Preakness Stakes.
The latter event has been scheduled to take place on Saturday at Pimlico racecourse. This announcement was made by the owner of Nehro, Ahmed Zayat on Tuesday.
Talking to the correspondents, the owner was reported as saying that this was a very tough decision for him, but he has decided to be cautious about the racing career of the champion colt.
He further went on to say that Nehro is in the best form. He said that even though he gave a spectacular performance on Monday and he is more than delighted with the way he is progressing, he does not want to overburden the racehorse. Zayat claimed that
he does not want to enter the racehorse for four difficult races within a time span of just two weeks as this might well have a negative consequence on him whether he shows it or not.
When the correspondents asked the owner about the future targets of Nehro, he said that his first priority would be to keep the horse healthy and happy and for that, he will have to have to be extra cautious.
He said that it is important so that he keeps performing well for the rest of the racing season. Zayat also claimed that it is not that the racehorse cannot be a part of these Classic events, as he will be heading forward for the Belmont Stakes.
Talking about the credentials and qualities of the racehorse, the pleased and satisfied owner went on to say, “He is a nice horse. We want to protect the horse. Another goal we have is the Breeders’ Cup Classic, since it is at Churchill Downs and he ran
well there in the Derby. He loves Churchill Downs.”
It is expected that 15 racehorses would be registered for the Preakness Stakes on Wednesday. The absence of Nehro will move the odds of the racehorse ‘Isn’t He Perfect’ in the starting line of 14.
