Kentucky coach John Calipari has no interest in NBA – NBA Update
John Calipari, Kentucky head coach, put rumours to bed surrounding his revival in NBA. The coach said that he is content at his current job and has no interest in returning to NBA.
“Kentucky is the best job in basketball coaching," Calipari said. "Why would I leave? We just won the national title. We're chasing UCLA."
Calipari’s response on Monday was appropriate for a coach who is having a great run with Kentucky. He is currently on path of redefining history with the team. After winning the Monday night title against New Orleans Kentucky grabbed their 8th
men’s basketball title and are just 3 short from levelling things with UCLA, who have won 11. Moreover he is already recruiting young talent for the next year team so there are no such patterns that can lead us to draw such conclusions.
Calipari is reckoned to be the best in his league. His abilities in recruiting and mending young basketball players are unmatched, why would he leave that to hustle with egoistic NBA players.
Though it is not disclosed but according to sources New York Knicks are interested in hiring Calipari’s services in not so distant future. But the coach denied any such offers, maybe he is honouring the unspoken coaching code, “thou shalt not publicly covet
a job currently taken.”
However it has been learnt that the club is trying to reach Kentucky coach through Creative Artist Agency (CAA). A source close to the coach concurred that on the basis of anonymity.
“Do I think they’ve spoken directly to Cal? No,” said one source. “Do I think he knows they’re very interested? Definitely.”
Mike Woodson is the interim coach of Knicks and a strong finish can result into contract extension, so far he is producing the desired results. He is also shedding players on the way that is jeopardizing their chances for the playoffs. It is a long shot
to predict about Mike’s extension but Calipari might be weighing his options that rely entirely upon Mike’s performance in the next few weeks.
