Kentucky gambling amendment has been agreed upon
The US lawmakers have finalised clauses of the Kentucky gambling amendment bill, which is likely to be tabled in the senate soon, revealed by an official of the state’s governor on, January 25.
The draft of the bill has been prepared by Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear in collaboration with Republican Sen. Damon Thayer.
Though the scope of the bill has not been unearthed so far, but it is likely to overhaul the entire system of horseracing-related gambling in the state.
The legislation on this issue was spurred by hard-pressed and longstanding demands of the racing organisers, track curators and the bookmakers of the state. It is expected that the bill will introduce casino-style gambling both on and off-track.
Moreover, the bill will refine the fund raising process for breeding development programmes of the state. Kentucky is home to some world class horse pedigrees, and it hosts a number of ace racing events every year. Currently, the breeding industry
is in shackles, because the lack of regular funds and logistical facilities.
While speaking to the media about the bill, Beshear said, “Sen. Thayer and I have agreed on language for the bill, which will be introduced in the Senate very soon. We will spend the next few days laying the groundwork for its introduction.”
He added, “We are hopeful that our senators will give this bill the full consideration it deserves, since repeated polls show that Kentuckians are demanding an opportunity to vote on this issue.”
The approval and implementation of this statute will be a mega development in the sporting history of Kentucky. It will surely help regulate gambling, and betting for the state’s racing events. Overall, this move will be greatly beneficial for the
progress of the cash-rich sport which poses to a source of entertainment, and revenue for many in Kentucky.
After getting General Assembly’s consent, the bill will seek the public support via a statewide referendum, to be held in November, 2012. It is expected that there will be no hiccups in the way of enforcement of this law as majority of the natives
seems to be favouring it.
