Kenwood Kdc-138 installation kit problem?

Just yesterday i got an instillation kit for my new stereo from walmart. I am installing it into a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I put it in and it is secure, but on the left hand side there is a large gap between the stereo and the dash. There are a lot of extra parts but i have no idea which ones to use. The instructions are very vague and i need help!

I finished wiring my new kenwood KDC-138 CD-Receiver. I have no display and no sound. I takes a CD which lets me to believe there is power but nothing happens. No Sound, No Display, No Radio. What could the problem be?
