And my subs been shutting off when i turn it up like some songs i do sometimes. I couldn't figure out why but there is a sub sonic filter and it was turned on too the middle setting so i turned it off and it didn't shut off i got to hear pounding i never heard? How could that affect the amp shutting off?

  1. you must adjust your amp it should have little black adjuster's on the side where you connect the speakers ... you will need a little s***w driver to adjust or it may have little nob's ....... hope this helps you good luck...

  2. I have been selling Kenwood amps for years. If you enjoy pounding your subs, running any of Kenwoods amps at 1 ohm will make them get hot and shut down. Especially on hot summer days. Despite the fact they state it is a 1 ohm stable amp you should run it at 2 ohms. I know it will not be as loud because it will only produce 1/2 its rated power, but it will be the best way to run the amp, and it is not likely it will shut down on you. Surprisingly Kenwood makes very, very reliable amplifiers. I know that with your 2 kicker subs having  4ohm dual coils you cannot not wire them to make a 2ohm load unless you use 1 of them.  I know you choices are either 8ohms or 1ohms if you use both and 8ohms is out of the question.  Only you can decide to keep punishing the amp, or getting a different amp or different subs. Also a subsonic filter is like a high pass cross. what ever frequency it is set at, it will allow the frequencies you set it at and above pass. If you have a ported box or a a bandpass box you really need to set it up at at least 20-30hz. maybe even higher if you like to punish your subs. So if the setting was too high it make sense that when you shut off you were letting all those low frequency's pass, thus giving you some nice nasty low notes. The amp should not shut off with the switch on, because it is doing less work.(the lower the frequency the more power it takes and the more heat it generates.) I can see maybe it shutting off quicker in the off position. If it shuts off in the on position and not in the off position you could need some service. Kenwood has a repair facility in DENVILLE NJ. They are very quick, and very good. So now you are armed with some information, make the best choice for yourself.
