Kenwyne Jones injury boost for Stoke City
Stoke City have been handed a boost with the news that record signing Kenwyne Jones may be back in training within days.
It had been feared that the club could be without their new player for weeks after he limped off just 10 minutes into his debut for the club - a 2-1 defeat away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday – when he suffered an injury to his right ankle in a challenge with opposition defender Jody Craddock. However, Jones underwent several scans and X-rays yesterday and it was revealed that the ligament damage sustained was not serious.
'Very concerned'
Stoke manager Tony Pulis told of his relief that the 25-year-old Trinidad and Tobago forward would soon be back in action. He said that "the news is as good as we could have expected in the circumstances. We were obviously very concerned about the extent of the damage over the weekend, but the tests have shown only minor ligament damage. We will assess Kenwyne's progress over the next few days, so it is hard to say how long he will be out, but we are talking days rather than weeks or months."
Despite only playing for a short time against Wolves, Jones almost managed to make a significant impact in the game as an early shot smacked against the woodwork. Pulis said that the injury the striker sustained had a negative impact on his team, who conceded goals to David Jones and Steven Fletcher in the first half before Abdoulaye Faye netted a consolation goal for the visitors.
Stoke’s next match is at home against Tottenham Hotspur, but it is too early to say whether Jones will be able to play any part in the game. He signed for the Potters in a club record £8m transfer last week.
