Kenya captain Jimmy Kamande has admitted that his team is no match against leading test playing nations around the world, after a humiliating 10 wicket loss to New Zealand.
The skipper agreed that the Africans failed to express themselves in the World Cup match and failed to make an impression.
He stated that the momentum was with them at the start of the innings, yet the players were blown away by the pace and swing of the Kiwi bowlers led by Hamish Bennett and Tim Southee.
“The young boys were nervous. The two young lads who opened were a bit nervous but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Collins-c51521 Obuya was positive and we were gaining momentum but quick wickets in the middle set us back,” he said.
Kamande added that the Africans were not overly bothered with the performance as the minnows have limited opportunities of playing at the highest level against test class opposition.
He thinks that the governing body of the game has to ensure that they provide them with more chances of competing with the major teams, rather than throwing them away in a so called second tier where they don’t learn much at all playing with teams of the
same pedigree over and over again.
He feels that the lack of exposure is a disappointment and one of the reasons of their poor standard when competing against major teams.
“It's for ICC to decide to play 10 teams or 15 ... The disappointing thing is we get to play a Test team once around every two years or so” observed Kamande.
Meanwhile, Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori was elated with his team’s effort. Vettori stated that his team was prepared for a tougher battle, however the crushing nature of the victory has pleased him.
“We didn't expect that the game would get over so quickly,” Vettori said. “We don't expect all other matches to be this easier. I think bowling full and straight is going to be the key in this part of world. We will keep the same intensity for every game.”
Vettori thinks that his team is in the right frame of mind for the rest of the tournament.
The Kiwis had endured a real slump in the ODI format before the start of the World Cup losing as many as 14 out of their 16 recent matches.
With the match against Kenya out of the way, the Kiwis can look to cement their berth in the last eight by recording wins over the two other lowly rated teams in their group: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748.
