Kenya to host the African Cup of Nations – Volleyball news
The Kenya Volleyball Federation’s (KVF) National Executive Committee has recently approved the decision of the Confederation Africane De Volleyball to make Kenya the host country for the women’s Africa Cup of Nations as well as the International zonal beach
volleyball tournaments.
Evans Wasike, the secretary general of the KVF, commented on the recent development and said, "We have already started talking to the various institutions which have facilities to host the Cup of Nations event. We understand Kasarani gymnasium is still
under renovations and we are not sure whether it will be available. This is why we are speaking to Brookhouse School and Africa Nazarene University. Nazarene is a good place and has the capacity to host the event. Besides, it's easy to access and provided
good service during our last championship."
The country will host the beach volleyball tournament from 26th July to 30th July. The beach volleyball tournament will act as a qualifier for the Olympics Games to be held next year in London. In all, there are 13 teams that have confirmed
their participation for the tournament including the host team from Kenya. Some other African countries that will take part are Djibouti, Egypt, Rwanda and Somalia.
However, it is the women’s tournament that has generated a lot of interest. The African Cup of Nations will take place in August after the beach volleyball tournaments from the July 15th to July 25th.
Women teams from various countries will be taking part in the tournament and among the top teams include Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria.
In order to prepare for the upcoming tournaments, the Kenya Volleyball Federation is going to feature a training camp that will be held at Nyayo Stadium. This will be after the KVF has named the provisional team for the tournament. This will be done from
July 8 to July10, when the National League-c*m-KVF Memorial tournament will take place.
The tournaments should give African teams the chance to participate at an international level event that will allow them to prepare for future tournaments and the upcoming Olympics Games.
