Kenya v Ireland – 3rd T20I – Irish completes series whitewash – Match Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 continued their domination over the hosts Kenya, as they won the 3rd T20I played on Friday, February 24, 2012 by two runs. The Irish, who already had a decisive lead of two games to nil, completed the series whitewash with the win at Mombasa
Sports Club Ground.
Toss went Ireland’s way and unlike the first game, Irish skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801, opted to bat first.
The tourists were forced on the back foot on the very first ball of their innings, as they lost the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200. Confusion between Porterfield and Stirling, led to the dismissal of Stirling - who made the call for a quick single, and was run
out.
Hard hitting batsman Kevin O'Brien came out to bat at number three. However, he did not last long and got out on the penultimate delivery of the first over, bowled by Shem Ngoche. The wickets of Stirling and O'Brien within the first over send shivers down
the Irish batting line-up.
Kenyan bowlers were jubilant when they saw the back of Porterfield in the third over. The Irish were struggling at that stage with just 14 runs on board.
Gary Wilson (32) and Ed Joyce (38) stabilized the innings when they added 55 runs for the fourth wicket. However, a splendid piece of fielding from the Kenyans brought an end to their stand. Irish batting collapsed afterwards but due to a solid partnership
between those two, helped Ireland post 107 runs on the board.
In pursuit of 108 runs to win the match, the Kenyans lost two early wickets – that of David Obuya and Ducan Allan.
Collins Obuya, the Kenyan skipper, and Tanmay Mishra brought some sanity back in the Kenyan line-up with a partnership worth 53 runs for the third wicket. However, the story of the Kenyan innings was pretty much the same as that of their nemesis. Wickets
started to crumble once Obuya got out and this forced the scoring rate to dip as well.
Mishra did his very best to see his side through but failed. It was all over for the African side when he got out in the 18th over, and they eventually fell just two runs short of the target.
