Kenya v Vanuatu – ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers - Match Recap
Kenya U-19 have registered their first triumph http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers, as they held their nerves to trounce over Vanuatu by a huge margin of 133 runs. The match was played at Merrion Cricket Club Ground, Dublin, on July 28, 2011. In the match,
Kenya overcame the odds to hand Vanuatu a defeat.
Kenyan Skipper, Kennedy Ochieng, played a belligerent knock of 85 runs which facilitated Kenya to an easy victory over Vanuatu. Kenya won the toss and elected to bat first. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rakep-Rajendra-Patel-c83650 and Ochieng came out into the middle to counter the early fire of the
Vanuatu’s bowlers.
However, the openers failed to provide a dream start to Kenya as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 lost their first wicket on just 13 runs on the board and Kenya came under pressure.
Fortunately, Skipper Ochieng and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duncan-c54739 Allan played sensibly and built a solid partnership of 76 runs which brought Kenya back on track. The partnership was going along well before Allan was caught plumb in front of the wickets and was declared LBW as Kenya
lost their second wicket on 89. He scored 47 runs off just 38 balls and whacked eight boundaries.
After the wicket of Allan, the wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-Ali-Karim-c64454, came into bat and stuck there with his Skipper. They constructed a sturdy partnership of 99 runs, as both players reached their milestone and completed their half-centuries. Karim went back
to the pavilion after scoring 54 valuable runs. He was clean bowled off the bowling of Jelany Chilia.
Karim’s wicket made an alley for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vanuatu-c3038’s bowlers to dominate him. He built another
profitable partnership with Vishram , scoring 42 runs and pushed their team’s score to 235 runs in their allotted ration of 38 overs.
Vishram went back into the hut after playing a cameo of 23 runs. He was removed by Nalin Nipiko. Kenya U-19 finally set a challenging target of 236 runs for Vanuatu.
Vanuatu, in pursuit of a daunting task, did not get off to the start that they would have hoped for. The opener Callum Blake was the first batsman to go back to the pavilion when Vanuatu’s total was just 16. By the time Vanuatu reached 25, they had lost
their top four batsmen and came under immense pressure.
However, a little effort by Nalin Nipiko and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Patrick-Kaltaneaki-Matautaava-c80908, built a small partnership of 37 runs, although it was not enough to counter the loss of early wickets.
Nipiko was caught by Allan off the bowling of Vishram, and Matautaava was clean bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vinit-Jayesh-Shikotra-c95372. After this partnership was broken, none of the remaining batsmen could counter the pressure exerted by Kenyan bowlers, who wrapped up the Vanuatu’s
innings for just 102 runs in just 32.3 overs and Kenya registered their first victory in the ICC U-19 World Cup qualifying round.
