The 2011 FIVB Women’s Club Volleyball Championship is just around the corner. The thrilling campaign will get underway in just a couple of days. According to the announced schedule of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB), the championship will officially
cover its length from October 8 to 14.
Qatar is set to host the event in the city of Doha. A total of six women’s clubs from different confederations will join the battle for supremacy in the Gulf state.
1.    Mirador – Dominican Republic
2.    Chang – Thailand
3.    Osasco Voleibol Clube – Brazil
4.    VakifBank TTelekom Istanbul – Turkey
5.    Kenya Prison – Kenya
6.    Rabita Baku - Azerbaijan
Kenya Prisons is one team that is looking to take full advantage of the opportunity this year. They are one of the top clubs in Africa and actually qualified for the international competition after launching authority over other teams from the same region.
The team is headed by experienced Coach, David Lung’aho, who has put in a lot of effort to finalise the team roster for the upcoming mega event in Qatar.
This is the second year in a row that Kenya Prisons earned the right to represent Africa at the event of Club Volleyball World Championship. Last year, the Kenyan squad could only finish in the 10th spot. However, this time around the team coach
has a lot of hope for improvement. He has urged the team to target a spot in the semis.
In a press conference on Tuesday, the Head Coach of Kenya Prisons disclosed his thoughts and plans about the upcoming event and stated: "We’re not going to underrate any team and I believe it will be vice versa because to be continental champions is no mean
achievement. All the teams in the Championship have an advantage over Prisons in terms of exposure but this factor won’t deter our determination to go past the preliminary round on this occasion. Our main target is to reach at least the semis and this means
that we must win one of the two group matches.”
As a result of drawing of lots by the FIVB in June, 2011, Kenya Prisons has been placed in Pool A alongside European Champions League winners Turkey’s Vakifbank Ttelekom Istanbul and NORCECA representatives Mirador, who settled for fourth position at the
tournament in 2010 and beat the team in the preliminary stages. Kenya will have tough competition with the rival teams in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the captain of Prisons Bracksides Khadambi strongly expressed the trust that her team will not be intimidated by the challenge during the campaign and said that players have the right attitude to do well against better teams in the competition.
Moreover, she affirmed that everyone on the team have the promise to give out a best performance at centre court.
