Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has insisted that the Gunners need to keep a hold of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380, or the team could suffer a massive step backwards.
The prolific striker managed to score a very impressive thirty goals for the team this past season, but with just one year left on his contract, the striker’s future is currently not certain.
The team held talks with him to discuss a contract extension, but so far, the outcome of those talks has not been revealed to the public. At the same time, many believe that the forward will have a few more talks with the team, before he ends up deciding
just what he wants to do in the future.
Keown has urged the team to do their best and keep a hold of the forward, or they could end up having a number of problems this coming season.
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are desperate for him to stay and have lost too many players in the past,” he said at a Carlsberg pub football event.
"If Van Persie were to go as well, it would take a number of years for them to recover from that."
The former Arsenal defender also believes that the striker is torn between two worlds, as his heart and his head are thinking two completely opposite things, which are making it hard for the player to decide just what he really wants to do.
"It is his heart against his head," he argued.
“It would be quite refreshing if a player decides: 'This is my club, I am not going to play anywhere else and am going to show that faith and trust which was shown in me. I am going to believe in project Arsenal have'.”
Arsenal now need to step up their talks with the striker, before it is a little too late. If the team is going to allow the player to leave, then they need to do so in the near future, in order for them to have ample time to rebuild their team.
If the team fails to do so, they could go on and have another very disappointing season.
