Kerala v Jammu & Kashmir – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, 2012/13 (Group C) – Match Recap – J+K win by 74 runs
Propelled by twin five-wicket hauls, from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parvez-Rasool-Zarghav-c80789 and Manik Gupta, Jammu & Kashmir went on to secure an emphatic 74-run victory over Kerala in their Group C match during the ongoing Ranji Trophy, played from December 8 to 10 at the Perintalmanna Cricket
Stadium in Malappuram.
Batting first, J+K were severely troubled by Kerala’s rampaging left-arm pacer Chovvakkaran Shahid (31.1-11-51-8), while Unnikrishnan Manukrishnan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Padmanabhan-Prasanth-c80630 both claimed one scalp each. However, while most of the batsmen failed to step up
to the challenge, J+K found a saviour in skipper Ian Dev Singh (117*), who anchored the innings with a solid unbeaten century.
Having opened for the side, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Dev-Singh-c1570 remained fixed at the top, while the remainder of the batting order fell in a flurry of wickets. Manik Gupta (22), Bandeep Singh (12), and wicketkeeper Obaid Haroon (11) were the only other batsmen who reached double
figures, but within 87 overs, on the first day of play, J+K found themselves bowled for a first innings total of 215.
However, the team ensured that Kerala did not surpass their middling total, with Parvez Rassol (23-7-66-3), Mohammad Mudhasir (9.4-2-15-3), Waseem Raza (14-5-24-2), and Manik Gupta (4-0-9-2) all teaming up to maintain a firm hold on the Kerala batsmen. In
the end, skipper Rohan Prem (41) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 (16) put forth average performances, while the remainder of the batting
order gave their wickets away cheaply. The second day resulted in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 being cut off at 163, all out.
While their batting performance let them down, Kerala managed to keep a stricter check on the J+K batsmen this time around, and ensured that they were only allowed to post a manageable final target. Padmanabhan Prasanth (14.4-7-16-5) spearheaded the attack,
and was backed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rohan-Prem-c2358 (8-1-29-2). In the end, Ian Dev Singh’s 37 was the highest score, while Obaid Haroon (32) was the only other batsman who succeeded in passing the 30-run mark. An avalanche of
wickets fell on the final day of play as J+K eventually found themselves all out at 151, setting Kerala a 204-run target.
However, even this target proved beyond the Kerala batsmen, as the deadly duo of Parvez Rassol (18-3-43-5) and Manik Gupta (9.4-3-26-5) teamed up to scythe through the opposition’s batting order. Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VA-Jagadeesh-c2742 (25) were the
only batsmen who managed 20+ scores, while the rest gave their wickets away without putting up a fight. Within 41 overs, Kerala were all out at a disappointing 129, and Jammu & Kashmir went on to clinch a comfortable 74-run victory.
