Question:

Kerataconus C3-R Procedure - After care?

My boyfriend just underwent C3-R treatment for Kerataconus this morning. His epithelium WAS removed. It was done in Toronto, I know that the doctor in California skips that step.

Anyways I have a few questions/concerns:

- He is feeling much more pain and discomfort than anticipated. The doctor sent us home with three tylenol 3 tablets. He's had one but it hasn't helped. Is this normal? He's normally one to have a high tolerance for pain, but he describes this as extreme.

- We're keeping the apartment as dark as possible, especially during daylight hours. He's wearing dark sunglasses and keeping his eyes shut. But even then sometimes he feels that any light is too bright. Is this amount of sensitivity expected?

- When can I expect him to feel less pain? It's only been 9 hours since the procedure.

  1. Aren't your boyfriend already in a kerataconus support group? I think support group is important for kerataconus patients just like patients with other diseases. You would be able to find help, information, experience sharing and successful procedure testimonials with a support group. If you have no idea maybe CNIB could help. Their website is www.cnib.ca. Hope your boyfriend got well soon.
