If you are relatively early in keratoconus I would recommend controlling the progression using gas permeable contact lenses.  In most cases keratoconus can be controlled for quite some time in this way and therefore may prevent you from having to have any surgical intervention at all.  If indeed you do eventually need surgery it very well may be much further down the road.
