Keri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor determined to continue with success in Rome - Volleyball news
Following their success at the Beijing Grand Slam, American women’s duo of Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor are determined to keep their winning streak in the next events of the 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour. The former three-time champions have confirmed
their ambition of victory in the World Championship openers on Tuesday, June 14. The World Championship was kicked off on Monday and it is scheduled to run into the weekend.
The American tandem played two matches on the first day of the tournament and finished the day with absolute success. The U.S. pair maintained perfect flow and made a clean sweep. In the first match, they faced a team from Czech Republic. The pairing of
Krystina Kolocova and Marketa Slukova stood under the flag of Czech Republic and challenged the American duo. Walsh and May-Treanor were enjoying tremendous form after finishing the Beijing Grand Slam. It was their first win in the 2011 season and it gave
them a lot of confidence to make further progress.
In the match against Czech Republic, both players perfectly complimented each other. They used their tactics and showed the power of their forearms to opponents. Walsh was applauded for her unstoppable cross court shots, while May-Treanor did a great job
at defence. The duo put up a combined effort and overpowered the Czech Republic’s team. The results were out after two sets as Walsh and May-Treanor performed exquisitely well and clinched success. Kolocova and Slukova failed to prove their endeavours and
left the court with heavy hearts after losing to Walsh/May-Treanor. The scoreboard showed the final score of 2-0 (21-12, 21-19).
Walsh and May-Treanor were featured against Italian couple in the next match on the same day. Team Italy was comprised of Laura Giombini and Valeria Rosso. The American side picked up the pace in the early few minutes and took the game score by storm. Walsh
supplied plenty of power to the ball and hit from different angles. Italians couldn’t deal with the heavy strike of volleys and dropped first set with the margin of five points 16-21.
The second set also came successful for American duo. May-Treanor hit with precision and a lot of accuracy. The ball frequently landed on Italian side and raised U.S. score. The beach volleyball enthusiasts enjoyed every bit of interesting fixture. Italian
team was restricted to a low score of 13, while May-Tranor and Walsh closed off the second set. They posted 21-13 to declare the victory.
Walsh and May-Treanor are scheduled to face another Czech Republic duo in the next match on Wednesday, June 15. The American team is strongly tipped to pull off success in their last match of the preliminary round. The real fight will start in the Main-Draw
stage, where they will come across some of world’s best teams. Nonetheless, the U.S. pair is determine to stick to the winning plan and make it to the top.
