Kermit Cintron is still without an opponent after two years – Boxing News
The World Boxing Organisation’s welterweight champion, Kermit Cintron, could fight against the Brandon Rios verses Urbano Antillon undercard for the WBA lightweight championship bout, in search of his next possible opponent.
The Killer is still in a search of his next challenger which might be decided very soon, as he has just signed a contract with the highly recognised promotional company, Top Rank.
With this deal, the Frog has increased his chances to go against the other stable fighters of Top Rank, such as Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto in the near future.
However, the 31-year-old Cintron should try to arrange some fights which would give him a good workout, before he plans to challenge the better performers. Secondly, he has not fought any fight since last year, when he fell out of the ring after tripping
on his opponent’s leg. Cintron was injured badly in the process and as a result, lost the fight against Paul William.
Some boxing critics are of the view that the move was purposely done by Cintron, to avoid the following round against Williams. Although he was fighting well before this incident, his fans felt that the action had been pre-planned.
The Puerto Rican national’s performance has been very disappointing since the past few years. He was knocked out by Antonio Margarito in 2008 and then awarded a 12-round draw gift to Sergio Martinez. In his encounter against the Argentine, Cintron fell
to the floor after a left hook from Martinez.
Cintron, has normally got off to a good start in his bouts, but does not manage to keep his confidence in the rest of the rounds. The boxer has to work extensively on his stamina, to fight better in the future.
Top Rank is now going to promote Cintron’s next fights, which gives way to the idea that the Puerto Rican may have the chance to face Pacquiao or Cotto. In case the fight happens, there are mere chances that Cintron could get away with a victory, as both
the boxers are undoubtedly one of the best in the business.
