Kerosene oil residue, how do I get rid of it?

I had a 1-k kerosene heater last year, the smoke's oily residue is still on my cieling it's VERY thick what do I do? It takes too long to try and scrub it off. I've tried most cleaners, please help

  1. Many Home centers sell a cleaning product in the paint department called T.S.P.  (Trisodium phosphate) this is a very good cleaner prior to painting.


  2. Original **** and Span.  It is a soapy dry powder that you mix with water.  When I bought my home I did not realize my walls and ceiling were supposed to be white (not yellow) until I washed off the nicotine stains.

    PS: What's with the censorship.  I listed a brand name that begins with S, not an ethnic group.

  3. I clean and restore Kerosene lamps and the best thing I have found to remove the Kerosene residue in them is white vinegar.  It may work for your problem too.
