Kerosene / used motor oil treatment for exterior wood?

old timers used this to preserve exterior wood...I am interested in the mixing ratio

  1. Not everything old timers used to do was a good practice. I know of only one instance where this is used and that is for cribbing horses. Not that I recommend this either.


  2. Are you WANTING to start a fire or just be ready for one???

  3. Caution, the used motor oil will darken the wood greatly and the combo. with the kerosene is flamable, not a good thing for your siding on a house!  

  4. My father-in-law uses kerosene and roofing tar to make an economical stain for his handcrafted  furniture.  You just have to experiment with scraps and adjust to your liking.  He then coats the furniture with a clear polyurethane finish.  He sells a lot of furniture and his customers often come back or refer others.
