Kerr, Carmichael, Patacchia and Crisanto reach Reef Pro El Salvador semi-finals – Surfing news
Australia’s Josh Kerr, his fellow countryperson Wade Carmichael, Hawaii’s Fredrick Patacchia and Brazil’s Peterson Crisanto made their way through into the semi-finals at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Reef Pro El Salvador after claiming
success in their respective quarter-final heats that went down at Punta Roca in La Libertad, El Salvador, on Sunday, July 14, 2013.
Kerr got the better of Brazil’s Caio Ibelli in the first quarter-final to advance through into the next round. Carmichael, on the other hand, made it into the next stage of the competition after finishing on top of America’s Tim Reyes. Patacchia and Crisanto
reached the semi-finals after defeating America’s Tanner Gudauskas and Australia’s Mitch Crews in the third and fourth quarter-final respectively.
The concluding day of the latest ASP 6-Star event saw clean four-to-six foot waves on offer at the right-hand point-break of Punta Roca, thus creating an ideal stage for the exciting surfing talent to treat the crowd in attendance to a series of enthralling
performances.
Both Kerr and Ibelli had looked solid in the previous rounds of the competition and consequently their encounter was expected to feature plenty of fireworks.
That, however, is not how their quarter-final match-up turned out to be. The Brazilian surfers failed to find his rhythm and eventually finished at a heat-total of 5.90 points, which his Australian rival Kerr managed to register a heat-total of 11.83 points,
thus walking away with the win.
The second quarter-final saw Carmichael and Reyes take each other on in a man-on-man battle for the semi-final spot. Both the surfers looked troubled by the waves, but the Australian surfer eventually managed to break free of the shackles and get to a heat-total
of 12.67 points against his rival’s 9.33 points, thus emerging triumphant.
Patacchia took on Gudauskas in the third quarter-final. The contest turned out to be high on intensity, with both the surfers fighting tooth-and-nail until the dying minute of the heat. Once the dust settled, however, Patacchia stood victorious with a heat-total
of 15.57 points against his rival’s two-wave total of 15.17 points.
The last remaining spot in the semi-finals was clinched by Crisanto as he put on a superb performance and registered a heat-total of 17.40 points to down Crews, who finished with a two-wave total of 14.06 points.
