Kerri Walsh and her achievements in beach volleyball
Beach volleyball is a sport that calls for more strength and ability from its players than indoor volleyball. This is largely due to the fact that beach volleyball consists of two players on a team while indoor volleyball has six players on one side of the
court. Responsibility is divided to a greater extent in indoor volleyball while in beach volleyball each of the two players has more responsibility in making a win or suffering a loss.
Therefore, it is often seen that players that play beach volleyball rather than indoor volleyball are more popular. This can also be attributed to the fact that in indoor volleyball, it takes a lot to stand out as there are five other players on a team to
be compared with. Other than that, the opportunity to make a hit on the ball is less often found in indoor volleyball as compared to beach volleyball.
If we look in the world of beach volleyball, there are quite a few names that come to the mind both in the male as well as the female category. However, there can only be some that stand at the top in both female as well as male beach volleyball.
One of the finest players in women’s beach volleyball today is Kerri Walsh. She partners with Misty May, the player that is considered to be one of the top beach volleyball players in the world. Together as a team, both Kerri Walsh and Misty May form a most
formidable combination that is considered to be the best in the world of beach volleyball.
Dane Selznick, who is a professional beach volleyball coach, expresses his opinion on the duo of Kerri Walsh and Misty May in the following words, “Overcoming adversity is right up this duo's alley...they're probably one of the best teams I've ever seen
at staying together when things get a little bit tough.”
Kerri Walsh plays both in the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) tournaments as well as the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) tournaments in matches held at the international and national level. She was given the title of the Best
Offensive Player as well as the Best Defensive Player in the year 2007. Not only that, Kerri Walsh also received the honour of being named the Most Valuable Player in the same year. Kerri Walsh along with Misty May were together named the Best Team of the
Year in 2007.
Kerri Walsh has the honour of being a gold medallist as she along with her partner Misty May bagged the first position in the beach volleyball event at the Olympic Games which took place in Athens in the year 2004.
Kerri Walsh shares her views on beach volleyball by making the following comments, “You touch every other ball and, if you s***w up, you only have one more person to back you up. You can’t go hide in the corner.”
Kerri Walsh was born on August 15, 1978 in Santa Clara California. She started playing indoor volleyball during her years in high school after which she went to Stanford University and continued to play volleyball there.
Kerri Walsh is known for her excellent skill both in the offensive as well as defensive side. Not only that, Kerri Walsh has a very quick reaction that often confuses the opposing team and makes them fall into errors.
