Kerry Ellis's (Elphaba in Wicked) accent?

Does anyone know if Kerry Ellis covers up her British accent now that she's on Elphaba over here?

I've tried looking on YouTube, but all I could find were videos of her when she played Elphaba over in London.

  1. She does have an English accent; she's from Suffolk, so it's a little different from the typical London accent, but that is how she naturally talks. For continuity purposes, when she started on Broadway, the director asked her to play the role with an American accent. It's not the greatest American accent in the world, but it's definitely put on for the purposes of the show.

  2. Most likely not. If that's how she sounds, that's how she sounds. People in live stage productions usually don't try to hide an accent unless the part requires them to. And besides, she sounds amazing. Her and Willemijn Verkaik of course.

  3. I've heard her, and she really doesn't seem to have much of an accent. Listen to Wicked in Rock. Its very fun.

Another interesting point: When Willemijn Verkaik sings in English she has no accent either.
