Kessler knocks out Green in the fourth round to claim the WBC Silver light heavyweight title – Boxing News
Mikkel Kessler went head to head with Allan Green at the Parken Stadium on Copenhagen, on Saturday night. The former WBC/WBA super middleweight champion was able to defeat his opponent with a fourth round knockout to claim the WBC Silver light heavyweight
title, even though he had a rough start. Round one went good for Green, but Kessler soon recovered and grabbed the victory with a left to the chin.
Initially, it was Green who was leading the show. Mikkel Kessler suffered a knockout right in the first round but he recovered well. This was Kessler’s debut at the light heavyweight level and he made the most out of it. His ferocious left hook to Green
proved his strength and punching power is still intact.
At the post-bout conference, celebrating his victory, Kessler said, “This was a great victory for me. I had to get rid of the ring rust in the first round. But once I got going, everything went according to plan. I am glad I could give my fans a spectacular
victory. Their support was fantastic.”
On the other hand, Coach Jimmy Montoya was highly excited with Kessler’s performance. He appreciated the pugilist saying, “Mikkel has always had a lot of power in both hands. He prepared Green well to the body. He opened him up and then he caught him. And
that was not a lucky punch.”
When asked about Kessler’s next opponent, his promoter stated that there is nothing specific right now since most expected opponents are busy with their fights including Carl Froch. For now, Kessler wants to celebrate his victory over Allan Green.
It should be noted here that Kessler was the first man to defeat Carl Froch and a rematch between the two is highly expected. Froch is currently scheduled to face Lucian Bute on May 26, Saturday. If Froch is able to grab a win over Bute and grab the title,
then a rematch between Froch and Kessler might be on the cards.
For now, there is nothing sure as to who will be Kessler’s next opponent and when will his next fight be held.
