  1. There is a big push going on in the saxophone world the past few years with Asian horns being imported, and "store branded" under individuals, or companies names. (Phil Barone, Kessler etc)  Horns out of Taiwan getting much higher reviews over those of China

Lets face it.. 2 of the big 4 are Japanese companies..

Yamaha and Yanagisawa.. (Yani makes the best sopranos of  the big 4 btw)

Many of these Asian horns are junk..(like all the off the wall names you see on ebay).. but many of them are good, particularly the ones that I mention above, that reputable businesses are putting THEIR names on.   In addition, several new non big 4 companies have started to produce horns that are closely equal, and in some players minds better, than the big 4, at half or less the price.   Cannonball, PMauriet, Antigua Winds come to mind.  Cannonball is probably the #5 brand in saxophones today.

I have not personally played one of the Kessler horns... but in the saxophone circles, they have  gotten good reviews for both quality and for playability (Deluxe models I'm talking about.. I wouldn't go for the basic model on any of these horns if they are available)  But, one thing I can tell you that gets high reviews, is Kessler and Sons as a place to do business.

Everyone raves about their customer service, which is something that really lacks today.

They stand behind EVERYTHING they sell.  Everything is backed 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.. (which they actually stand behind) and they have a 72 hr (3 day) trial policy to return for a full refund (excluding shipping/handling)

They take all the major credit cards, or you can apply online for a NAMM music money/Kessler credit card, that offers 90 -180 day no finance terms depending on the item.

    Good luck with your purchase

  2. Kessler is not one of the name brands that are well known or played by the majority of sax musicians.  I would say it is an off-brand  but if it is in your price range... that makes it a brand for your consideration.   Paying online is usually done with Paypal or credit card.   If you are buying from an individual,  you must be careful,  but many times they will have you send a money order.
