Ketchup on tamales?

it's a BIG CRIME to add ketchup on tamales.

Tamales has a totally different taste. You can add salsa with tamales but please no ketchup.

I know a lady that make the best tamales, both meat and masa are tasty! I don't need to add additional sauce.

When I was in college, one of my roommates was Latino.  In lieu of salsa, he used ketchup.  He explained that when he was young, salsa was too spicy and it's common for kids to use ketchup instead of salsa.  It made sense to me.

I have never heard of ketchup on tamales so I would have to say NO - just sounds gross.

Ketchup has no business being on a tamale. Like the rest of the civilized world, I use ketchup on hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, and as an ingredient for bar-b-que sauce, period.

That's bizarre... some people who have a sweet tooth load up on ketchup since it's full of high fructose corn syrup. It's not really a good idea. I used to eat ketchup on scrambled eggs, but I've moved toward healthier, more savory condiments like hot sauce.
