Kettle Corn and Game On Dude in contention to win the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup
Kettle Corn will get another chance to battle it out with, Game On Dude, and renew the previous rivalry in the Grade 1, $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup at Betfair Hollywood Park on 7th July, 2012.
The two previously collided in the Grade 2 Californian Stakes at the same track, and it was Game On Dude, who romped the victory by a margin of 7 ¼ lengths and completed the 1 1/8 mile track in 1 minute and 48.01 seconds
Prayer For Relief – Game on Dude’s stable mate – secured the third position in the 1 1/8 mile event on 2nd June, 2012.
Now, the two runners meet again with, Game On Dude, entering as a high-weight of 124 pounds while Kettle Corn enters with seven less pounds and he stands at 117. The runners’ stamina will be tested on the 1 ¼ mile track.
Kettle Corn’s trainer, John W. Sadler, agrees that it may be difficult to beat the Bob Baffert trained, Game On Dude, who will be mounted by rider, Chantal Sutherland.
The trainer hopes that his five-year-old will be able to land a solid finish. To the press, he stated:
“If we run second or third, I’ll be happy,” he further added “To me, if [Game On Dude] gets beat, it’s because of the style of the race, how the race is run, and if he gets pressure.”
The five-year-old, Game On Dude, will be feeling a lot of pressure, but nothing should worry him, considering he is in top-notch form at the moment. Provided he succeeds in this race, it will be his third victory this season.
The son of Awesome Again, foaled by mare Worldly Pleasure, also bagged a victory in Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita Park over 1 1/8 miles, which he completed in 1 minute and 46.88 seconds where he defeated, Uh Oh Bango.
Owner/trainer Myung Kwon Cho has decided to the run the four-year-old, Love Theway You are, based on her brilliant success in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park where she defeated, Include Me Out, over 1 1/8 miles and completed the race
in 1 minute and 51.10 seconds.
