Kevin Anderson weds Kelsey O’Neal, putting a cherry on his best season – Tennis News
After enjoying his best career season, South African number one Kevin Anderson got married to his college girlfriend Kelsey O’Neal this Saturday on 10thNovember, 2011. The wedding reception took place at the North Shore
Country Club in Glenview, Illinois.
Ranked 32nd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Anderson had a tremendous start of the season as he made a semi-final berth at Brisbane (lost to second seeded American Andy Roddick), the first tournament
he participated. Despite falling to a three match losing streak (exited from the opening round from the Australian Open), he cruised at his home soil in Johannesburg and clinched his maiden title of the season (battled past Indian Somdev Devvarman in the title
round).
For the remainder of the season, the South African put up a solid display of tennis and made quarter-final showings at Delray Beach, Miami, Estoril, Atlanta, Beijing and Stockholm ATP World Tour events. He cracked another semi-final
spot this season that is at Vienna ATP event before ending the season after being ousted in the second round of Paris ATP Masters 1000 event. Overall, the South African secured a 42-27 win – loss record this season. He also won made a third round showing at
the US Open and won all matches played in the David Cup (against Netherlands and Croatia).
The rising star Anderson reached his highest career rank at number 30 on October 10th, 2011 after reaching the final eight in Beijing. Regardless of an early exit from Paris Masters, Anderson capped his best season with
wedding bells.
"It was just an incredible weekend, especially having friends and family coming from all over the world to be a part of our special occasion," said the happy groom. "Illinois has become my home since leaving South Africa; it was
where I went to college and where Kelsey and I met. It was the most special day of my life."
The beaming South African concluded his long relationship with O’Neal, who is an athlete herself, by marrying her in the right time. Both met each other five and half years ago during college at the University of Illinois. Anderson
was member of college tennis team while his wife was in the college’s golf team. In addition to this, Anderson’s father-in-law, Timothy O’Neal is also an athlete. He is a PGA Master Professional at the North Shore, where the wedding reception took place.
Anderson is currently enjoying his off season vacations on honeymoon to Miami and St. Lucia.
