Kevin Cordes overpowers Men’s 100m breaststroke heats: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Kevin Cordes of University of Arizona overpowered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m breaststroke on day three of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 18-year-old Cordes made no mistake in the qualifying rounds and overpowered his opponents in a wonderful manner. He continued his smothering efforts in the double lap backstroke discipline and entered the final round as the strongest swimmer for gold
medal.
With his invincible efforts, he remained two body lengths faster from his strongest challenger as he tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.57 seconds.
His immaculate effort remained 2.12 seconds faster from Clark Burckle of Tucson Ford Deal and Carl Mickelson of University of Arizona, who tried hard to escape each other over the finishing end but ended in a joint finish for second position.
Burckle and Mickelson failed to surpass each other over the finishing end and made their way to the finishing blockade as second best finishers with the timing of 1 minute and 03.69 seconds.
The duo was trailed by Brendan McHugh of Grtr Phila Aquatics, who stayed only 0.09 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as fourth best finisher with an effort of 1 minute and 03.78 seconds.
McHugh was chased by Brandon Fischer of Wyoming Aquatics, who was just 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and made his way into the playoff as fifth position holder with the timing of 1 minute and 03.80 seconds.
Sixth best qualification spot of the race was secured by Kevin Steel of University of Arizona, who remained 1.17 seconds apart and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 04.97 seconds.
Similarly, Steel remained 0.20 seconds ahead of Michael Nelson of Phoenix Swim Club, who secured seventh best position of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 05.17 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was secured by Gage Crosby of Razorback Aquatics, who finished eighth in the event with an effort of 1 minute and 05.47 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner.
