Kevin Cordes of USA overwhelmed the qualification rounds of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on first day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
The American swimmer smothered hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he cruised his way towards the finishing wall for first position.
Cordes remained half a body length ahead of his opponents as he rushed his way towards the finishing end by producing a time of 57.66 seconds.
He was trailed by Marco Koch of Germany, who remained 0.44 seconds slower from his following swimmer and hit the finishing end for second position with an effort of 58.10 seconds.
Similarly, Koch was followed by Fabio Scozzoli of Italy, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end by producing a time of 58.16 seconds.

Afterwards, the crowd was astonished with the scintillating forms of Joao Gomes Junior and Koichiro Okazaki of Japan, who involved each other in a stroke-to-stroke battle in the final lap.
Both swimmers struggled hard to ascend on the overall rankings list but failed to do so and ended their swims with the same timing for fifth position.
The duo remained 0.08 seconds slower from Alexandrov and transpired on the finishing end for fifth place by producing a time of 58.43 seconds.
Following that, the same happened between Viatcheslav Sinkevich of Russia and Igor Borysik, who concluded their races with identical timings for seventh place.
Sinkevich enjoyed a marginal lead over Borysik in the first half of the race but failed to continue his dominance in the second half as he touched the wall with same timing of 58.49 seconds for seventh place.
In addition, Cordes was overjoyed with his undisputed effort in the first round of the race and stressed that he would try hard to continue the same in subsequent rounds to occupy gold medal.
