Kevin Cordes seizes Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Kevin Cordes of University of Arizona seized gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on concluding day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 18-year-old Cordes, who qualified into the final round as top contender for gold medal, lived up to the expectations of his supporters by snaring the crown of the event.
With his persistent efforts, he showed no mercy to his challengers and cruised his way towards the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 01.23 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained one and a half body length faster from his following swimmer, Clark Burckle of Tucson Ford Deal, who made his way to the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 02.60 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by Brendan McHugh of Grtr Phila Aquatics, who was 0.51 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and hit the finishing end for third position by posting a time of 1 minute and 03.11 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Carl Mickelson of University of Arizona, who remained 0.38 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 03.49 seconds.
The 21-year-old Mickelson was trailed by his teammate, Kevin Steel, who remained just two strokes apart and made his way to the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 03.86 seconds.
Similarly, sixth finest spot of the event was secured by Gage Crosby of Razorback Aquatics, who stayed half a body length behind and completed his swim in a time of 1 minute and 04.55 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was obtained by Ryan Cox of Una UOFL-KY, who stayed almost half a second behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 05.31 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was obtained by Michael Nelson, who failed to make any improvement in his pace and clocked 1 minute and 05.56 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the championship concluded after the completion of all swimming events in Men and Women’s category.
