Kevin Cordon defeats Osleni Guerrero to secure Men’s Singles title at Pan Am Badminton Championships
Guatemala’s ace player Kevin Cordon showed his elite class on court and nailed Men’s Singles title after stamping his mark over the lower ranked Osleni Guerrero of Cuba in the final clash at the XVII Pan Am Badminton Championships Individual Event in Peru,
on Sunday, October 14.
The in-form Cordon, who was the top seed in the championship, worked hard in the title match and managed to stamp his mark over Guerrero who was the eighth seed in the Men’s Singles main draw.
Cordon remained impressive in the whole event and he continued showing up his hard-to-learn skills in the final match and defeated his Cuban challenger in straight sets with a reasonable score on the board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Guerrero gave a stunning fight in the first game and stretched his rival to the limit but failed to remain consistent in the ending point and lost the set with a narrow difference.
However, Guerrero could not deliver a strong performance in the second game and eventually lost the second game and also the match to Cordon in just 32 minutes.
The opening set of this title match was absolutely breath-taking when both shuttlers put up staggering show of attacking game and remained close on score board until the end of starting half.
After the one-minute break, Cordon tried to lift up his level of play but failed to create a considerable gap on score board as his Cuban rival also played at the same level.
Both shuttlers reached at 20-20 when Cordon displayed wonderful skills on court and managed to score ending points and won the set with a 22-20 margin on the board.
In the second set of this contest, Cordon played with remarkable precision from opening points and set up a huge lead until the end of first half.
The top seeded Cordon continued impressing the local crowd with his enticing play on court and won the second game with a dominating 21-10 score on the board.
Cordon stamped his supremacy on court by finishing up the final contest in straight sets with a commanding margin of 22-20 and 21-10.
