Kevin Cunningham teaches to box with integrity
If there would have been a brand ambassador for boxing, it would have been undoubtedly the famous Kevin Cunningham. The former police detective from St. Louis has saved thousands of children from the misery of childhood abuse and violence by directing their energies into boxing. Needless to say, Cunningham knows the sport inside out and has good ideas to revive the long-lost spirit of boxing amongst fans across the globe.
Unlike the retrospective trainers, Kevin is appalled how a bunch of fad advertisers and promoters try isolating the players that are at risk. The biggest boxing trainer and expert, Kevin Cunningham is known to be the secret recipe for winning matches. His playing strategies are extremely fine and fair and that is what Kevin likes about his job.
Super lightweight division is a rare boxing league, which is full of top-notch fighters. With Kevin training the thugs, the boxers are deemed to attain championship calibre. The fights are broadcast live on T.V. and give the boxing fans more than their expectations. Devon Alexander, one of the most talented boxers in the super lightweight category will counter Andriy Kotelnik on Saturday at Scottrade Centre, St. Louis. The bout will be broadcasted live on HBO. The league has high hopes from Alexander and if he wins, he will face Timothy Bradley in his next match.
“We have contaminated the sport by our irrational management,” says Kevin. “Managers act like it’s a big puzzle, which they cannot solve. You don’t have to bother yourself by letting top-notch players fight the newbie. What you do is choose the best guys and let them face each other in the ring.” Cunningham went on to add, “Why does Bradley have to fight another guy and why does Devon have to combat someone else? Bradley says he is the best. We know that Devon is exceptionally good. So what we do is ask them to prove themselves. We put Bradley and Devon together in the ring. It is as simple as that. It is common sense, and nothing more.”
Boxing has a few challenges to it. With 4 sanctioning organizations and 17 weight classes, the belts given out in the divisions which result in 68 boxing champs in each calendar year. Along with that number, there are the super champs, the provisional champs and champs in recess which take the total tally over the 90 figure mark.
But Cunningham loves to keep it simple. Since he believes in the calibre strategy, the best would always fight the best. It is always very easy to pick out the best men, making a total of 17 champs in total.
The boxing grandeur, Juan Manuel Marquez is already considering switching over to super lightweight with the hot-shot, Michael Katsidis following his footsteps. Their entry into the league would mark at least 10 potential champions in the league.
Currently, Devon and Bradley are ranked as the number 1 boxers in the division. With Katsidis joining the duo, they would make the toughest trio to knock down in any boxing festival.
But there is a lot more in store for diehard boxing fans out there. Boxers like Amir Khan, Zab Judah, Victor Ortiz, and Katsidis form a concrete foundation of the division.
HBO has decided to tentatively broadcast the Bradley vs. Devon match on January 29 assuming that Devon will beat Kotelnik. Gary Shaw, Bradley’s promoter and Don King, Devon’s promoter are both on their feet.
However, the affair is not as simple as it seems. CEO of Top Rank Boxing Bob Arum plans to speak with Gary to reschedule Timothy Bradleys match to the Nov. 13 pay-per-view show. Since the show already features Antonio Margarito vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, the idea is to create hype for the down-the-line match between Timothy and Manny.
On the contrary, Shaw is not ready to give up a big show for the mere possibility of Arum giving Bradley a chance against Pacquiao.
While the dates of the broadcasts remain undecided, boxing fans all over the world are eager to watch their golden stars battle their way to the top.
