Kevin Davies eyes more England call-ups
Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies has said that his England debut against Montenegro this week has only sparked his appetite for more international appearances.
Faced with injuries to Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent and Bobby Zamora, England manager Fabio Capello called up Davies for Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley on Tuesday, October 12.
With the tie still goalless, Davies replaced Peter Crouch in the middle of the second half, making his England debut at 33.
Despite failing to score against Montenegro's solid defence, Davies showed intent and turned in the kind of toiling performance Bolton fans have come to expect from the striker.
"It has always been 'I've never played for England' and now I'm very proud to have done that," said Davies, adding that he will not settle for only one national team appearance. "But the next thing is being stuck on one cap. I don't want to be one of those
players who are stuck on one cap. Since I've been here, I've been working hard to make that impression on the manager."
Davies to continue as he has at Bolton
Davies, who has previously said he wants to end his career at Bolton, has been the team's most consistent player since joining in 2003.
The striker is known to commit many fouls in attack, but his work rate and goal-scoring ability include some of the other attributes that have added to his popularity at the Reebok Stadium.
"I'll go back to Bolton and keep doing what I have for the last seven or eight years and hopefully that will be enough to get me into future squads. People might say that when the other strikers are back after injury, they might go straight back into the
squad. Who knows? But I won't be doing anything different to the last seven or eight years."
Davies will now focus on his Bolton's Premier League bid. Owen Coyle's team is 12th in the table, with eight points from seven games.
"It has been one of those things where I've been disappointed and I didn't think it was going to come. Now it is here, it will give me a confidence boost," added Davies, whose team hosts Stoke City on Saturday.
