Kevin Durant: I got Russell Westbrook’s back – NBA Report
Oklahoma City Thunder super star Kevin Durant has said he has complete faith in his colleague and friend Russell Westbrook and will be there for the point guard whenever need be. The two have formed a lethal combination at Oklahoma
City that saw the Thunder surge into the Western Conference Finals last season.
Westbrook though is a temperamental character with a selfish streak on the court, which has often led to rumours of discontent within the Thunder locker room. When Westbrook was seen throwing a tantrum at being snubbed by Oklahoma
City coach Scott Brown, these rumours intensified.
Durant however has stressed that everyone in the Thunder locker room is on the same page and that he and Westbrook look out for each other all the time.
"I've got his back 100 percent and he's got my back 100 percent on that floor.” Kevin Durant said in an interview as reported by ESPN.
For his part, Westbrook also clarified that he was a friend on and off the court with Durant and the two will do everything in their power to bring more and more success to the franchise.
"I just know that me and Kevin are very close," Westbrook said.
There has been talk to of Westbrook leaving the franchise at the end of this season. The explosive point guard, who started as an erratic youngster and has blossomed into a devastating offensive weapon, is set to be a restricted
free agent at the end of the 2011-2012 NBA season.
He will be in line for a massive pay hike once his current contract runs out and sources suggest that pay hike might not be with the Thunder. Westbrook is set to be a coveted star whenever he hits the market and might decide to
try his luck somewhere other than Oklahoma City.
Durant though rubbished such suggestions. He said that there was no need to talk to Westbrook about these matters because the point guard was not going anywhere.
"He's already on our team. I think he's going to be on our team for a while, too," Durant said. "He wants to stay here. That's the vibe I get from him.”
Durant was confident that his teammate has his heart set on staying with the Thunder.
"Those are decisions you tell a guy just to make the decision on what he feels and what he believes in. I think that Russell is a guy that believes in team first and wants to be here in Oklahoma City. He loves the city, so we 'll
see."
Westbrook has said that he isn’t even thinking about a new contract at the moment and is instead concentrating on getting back to an NBA court.
