Kevin Durant hit six of his points in the third overtime as the Oklahoma City Thunder finally overcame the spirited Memphis Grizzlies in a triple-overtime 133-123 victory on May 9, 2011 at the FedEx Forum, Memphis.
With this victory, Thunder once again tied the series at 2-2. Durant came up with 35 points including the crucial six in the third extra time. He was second leading scorer of the game as well as of his team and completed his double-double
by clutching 13 rebounds together with four steals and one assist.
Durant, who missed his only attempt in game-3, went 16 of 18 from the charity stripe in this game, but his shooting from behind the arc and from the field was not up to the mark.
Durant hit a 19-foot jumper in the third overtime when he stole the ball from Zach Randolph, who was on the other end, then hit over Shane Battier at the key with 29 seconds to go and pushed the lead to 131-123. He was thrilled
to be a part of such an exciting game after wards.
Durant said, "It's something people are going to be talking about for a while. I'm glad I'm a part of it. ... It's was the biggest game of my life. I just wanted to take advantage of it. I wanted to leave everything
on the court and be satisfied with the results. Just the stakes of the game and the level of the competition. It definitely is one of the best games I've played in and competed in. It was a fun game.''
Game-5: Oklahoma City Thunder 99 – Memphis Grizzlies 72
Kevin Durant led his team right from the front as Thunder dominated the Memphis Grizzlies throughout and carved out a 99-72 win after a hard fought out triple overtime game-5.
Durant completed his job in the earlier part of the game and sat on the bench for the entire fourth quarter, as the Thunder grasped their third victory of the series and went up for the first time in the semi-finals.
He scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots for the Thunder and led all scorers.
The gifted forward hit four of six from the paint and seven of 14 from the field during his 31 minutes stint.
Durant made a highlight move midway through the first quarter when he clutched a rebound, jogged up the court, turned on the jets at centre line, successfully bisected two defenders in the lane and made a smashing layup.
