NBA’s three time scoring champion wants the experience of winning a gold medal to help him be a better leader for Oklahoma City Thunder
Kevin Durant has constantly been on the rise not only as an NBA player but on an international level as well. The player started by being the best player in United States’ golden venture in the FIBA world Championships and just
recently he won his first Olympic gold medal.
The latest achievement has really spurred him on.
There has been a lot of talk about NBA team owners regarding the risk of injury on the international level, but to Durant and many other players, participation in the Olympics does help them out in the future.
KD believes he has picked up much knowledge during the prestigious tournament and now wants to translate that experience on the NBA courts;
“My role was a little different playing with Team USA as opposed to when I’m on the Thunder. So I learned a lot about myself as a player.” Durant said according to Thunder’s official website, “I think half the game is mental. Watching
other guys and approaching the game like I did, I think I learned in that aspect. I also learned how to be a better leader and hopefully I bring it back to OKC and become a better player. I know I have a long way to go, I just have to keep improving.”
Durant was surrounded by the likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony during the Olympics and the experience of playing in a team full of established NBA stars is only bound to make him better.
Durant feels the main thing he picked up in the Olympics was that it is never about individual scores. Success will only come when a team performs as a cohesive unit and taking care of little things is all that matters.
This can only mean a start of better things to come for the Thunder, who with Durant leading them, have constantly been improving ever since the re-location from Seattle. He along with Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Serge
Ibaka are still young and participating in the competition will go a long way in making them even better players.
