Kevin Durant dismisses concerns over his workouts with LeBron James – NBA Update
LeBron James and Kevin Durant are two of the most gifted specimens, the league boasts off in this era. While James has established himself as the best player of his generation and perhaps the most complete one of all time, Kevin Durant is touted by many as the next best thing. He is in fact better than James when it comes to scoring – three consecutive NBA scoring titles including one last season is a testament to that.
The two were at loggerheads with each other in the NBA Finals last season and it was ultimately LeBron who managed to lead his Miami Heat to glory. However, that did not stop KD to workout with his fiercest rival in the off season.
“I'm a competitive guy,” Durant said as reported by News OK. “I'm sure you guys have seen that in me. I just wanted to work out. That's what it was all about. I'll work out with anybody. I would have worked out with Kobe Bryant. I would have worked out with Carmelo (Anthony). I just wanted to work out and get better.”
James and Durant had joint workouts last season as well, a merger which they branded as the ‘h**l Week’. The videos went viral on the internet and when James came calling this time around Durant had no reservations.
“He was the first guy that called me and I said ‘Hey, why not?” Durant said. “And I went out there and worked hard. So hopefully I have a good season this year.”
There were many people who suggested that Durant should not practise with James, especially when he knows that the Miami Heat star is the man, he will be facing in championship games regularly in the years to come.
The old school guys think that it will give an unprecedented advantage to James, and he can work out on Durant’s weaknesses.
Durant does think so however and for starters he will have the same advantage on James. Scott Brooks, the Oklahoma City Thunder coach, also backed up Durant on the issue;
“It's not like he worked out with him every day throughout the summer. But that doesn't bother me. You want to work out with the best players that you can find and you're not going to find a better player than LeBron.”
